On the 22nd of October, the Department of Marketing Management on 2nd Avenue Campus was proud host to a guest lecture by Dr Doug Mattheus.

Doug is currently the Executive Head of Marketing at Cell C and was in Port Elizabeth on a business trip but being an NMMU Alumni found time to address our students. The event was attended by 2nd and 3rd year Marketing Diploma students, along with invited NMMU staff. External guests included Prof Bosch (Emiritus Professor) and BOOMTOWN, but to name a few. The newly built 200-seater lecture venue on 2nd Avenue Campus was filled to capacity and suited the event to perfection.

Doug’s lecture took the audience on a journey through the dynamic and ever changing world of sponsorship marketing. Speaking from his past experiences with sponsorship campaigns involving top sports teams such as the Springbok Rugby Team and the Sharks Rugby Team, Doug eloquently combine sound marketing theory with practical application. Additional focus was given to Cell C’s current marketing campaign with exclusive insights into the company’s strategic focus.

Doug was the former Marketing Executive at Ster-Kinekor, South Africa's leading motion picture exhibitor. Prior to that, he served for 9 years as the Marketing Director of Nashua Mobile, a South African cellular service provider, where he headed up the marketing and was intrinsically involved in the company's strategy. Doug also serves on the academic advisory councils at Tshwane University of Technology and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and is a regular guest lecturer at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Doug is a Chartered Marketer with the Marketing Association of South Africa.
