On 10 April 2014, 5 candidates received their PhD degrees in The School of Management Sciences at the graduation ceremony held at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
What made this event even more special was that the five promoters who read the citations of the PhD candidates were all female.

Prof Laetitia Radder was the promoter for Dinesh Valabh who was a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Business Management) with his thesis entitled: “Customer relationship management in small to medium tourism enterprises (SMTEs) in the Eastern Cape Province”.
Prof Sandra Perks was the promoter for Anne Wanjiru Kiboi who was a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Business Management) with her thesis entitled: “Factors affecting strategy implementation in state corporations in Kenya”.
Prof Eileen Mazibuko was the promoter for Lydia Muthoni Mbuthia who was a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Business Management) with her thesis entitled: “The influence of service performance measurement on service delivery: Expectation of university students in Kenya”.
Prof Miemie Struwig was the promoter for Ignis McLaren who was a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Business Management) with his thesis entitled: “The interface between financial management and marketing management in South African Businesses”.
Prof Elmarie Venter was the promoter for Thomas Stanley van den Heever who was a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Business Management) with his thesis entitled: “Perceived value creation in technology-based entrepreneurial business”.
To ensure the female power Professor T. Mayekiso was the acting Vice Chancellor for the proceedings during the session.
