The Financial Planning Society is a registered NMMU student society made up of both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are taking financial planning modules.

The purpose of the society is to encourage and facilitate member interaction, to build a network for members to interact with financial planners in the industry and to promote the image of the Financial Planning Program.

The society recently successfully hosted their opening function for the year at the Senate Hall on the North Campus. The society's members were honoured by 3 distinguished guest speakers, namely:

Mr Edward Gutsche - Managing Director of Edge Financial Group;

Mr Jon-Paul Raper - Development Manager at Old Mutual;

Mr Thembani Biyela - Product Planner at General Motors.

The guest speakers shared some interesting and valuable insights into the financial planning industry. They motivated the members in attendance to stay focused on their studies, which will prepare them well to take on the working world that awaits. Well done to all who contributed to making the event a success, in particular the Financial Planning Society Committee, the lecturers involved in the society (Miss Goliath and Mr Matchaba-Hove), as well as Redbull, who provided the refreshments for the event.

The Financial Planning Society plans on hosting many more seminars and lunch talks throughout the course of the year to enable the members to familiarise themselves with what is happening in the industry, as well as to promote the link between the theory learned in the various financial planning modules and its practical implications.
